Grocery Shop like a Parisian
You’ll find a little piece of Paris at the residential corner of 28th and St. George in the form of a quaint new neighbourhood grocer.
Run by potter Janaki Larsen and her family, Marché St. George sells nice things and necessities alike, from Farmhouse cheeses and organic flour, to well-packaged soaps and French candies in cute tins. In place of the lotto station you see at most convenience stores, there’s a display of fresh pastries sent over from Plaisir Sucre. Take a seat with your croissant and coffee and admire the space of old wood tables and weathered chairs. Come summer, they’ll also have a slew of produce grown from within a ten block radius.Grocery shopping has never been so romantique.

Greens is the New Black
For you, not any pork will do. On Sloping Hills tenderloin you prefer to spend your coin.
But you don’t need to dine out to have it. New grocer Greens brings those Qualicum Beach Berkshires, among other choice meats, to your home kitchen. Started by two UBC grads, the market focuses on organic and natural foods and products, and making as much of that good stuff affordable and locally sourced. While shopping we had a lengthy chat with their meat and seafood manager and learned that in-store workshops on beginner’s butchery are in the works (so you can also save bills by buying a whole bird instead of just a couple breasts).

The Whole Story
There’s one thing we really love doing in L.A. (no, we aren’t talking about the pool boy at The Mondrian). Toting a canvass bag full of goodies from Whole Foods is our favourite way to indulge our inner organic starlet.
At the massive new Vancouver location (53,000 square feet, to be exact), grab a capp at the coffee bar, chat with the in-store naturopath expert, choose produce that fits the 100-mile mantra and take home a ready-to-eat pie from the personalized pizza station. Be sure to stop by the impressive outdoor Living Wall; it brings some much-needed eco-friendly foliage to the busy urban location. Now our only concern is that the burrito and taco bar and full-service charcuterie counter will make our oven obsolete.
