Beauty House Call
Kate Middleton may have done her own makeup for her big day, but we think some things are better left to the professionals.
The wedding season is about to begin and whether you’re the bride, a bridesmaid, or a guest (hey, you’ll still be photographed), perfect makeup is a must. For my own recent very important event (um, the Prince concert!), I enlisted The Salon Beauty Bar’s Mobile Makeup service to give me a look that would stand out in the crowd. My laziness worked in my favour: Mobile Makeup’s artists beautify you in the comfort of your own home, so no need to run around town with a half-melted summer face. And did Prince notice me? I’m pretty sure I saw him throw a little glance in my direction. —Anya Georgijevic

eternal love triangle
Betty or Veronica? The enduring question…for Archie, at least.
Now the famous redhead’s amours have teamed up with MAC Cosmetics for a special Valentine’s Day collection titled “Archie’s Girls,” available February 7. Veronica delivers vixen-y goodies like the Boyfriend Stealer ($20) lipstick, a broody dark berry shade. But Betty’s got a couple of tricks up her sleeve as well: never underestimate the power of a fresh-faced beauty with her Cream Soda ($26) peachy blush. Why these two beauties still fight over Archie is beyond us, but love often needs no reason.

Top 5: Fall 2012 Beauty Trends
This is the moment of vamp, but winter fresh and retro beauty also found their way onto runways this season.
Wine LipsVampy is the buzzword of the season, so get ready for very deep wine coloured lips. Seen at Gucci (pictured), YSL, Etro, and dozens of other shows, this dark shade requires some bravery, but once you try, you won’t stop. Editor’s Pick: Ilia Lipstick in Femme Fatale, $24 at ILIA.com and Kiss & Makeup, H5-925 Main St., West Vancouver, 604-922-6292, www.kissandmakeupstore.com
Burgundy TipsWith vampy lips come vampy nails. Intense brights and complex nail art is put on the sidelines in lieu of the classic Hollywood burgundy, as seen at Catherine Malandrino (pictured) and Jenny Packham. Editor’s Pick: Essie nail polish in Skirting the Issue, $11 at Kiss & Makeup, H5-925 Main St., West Vancouver, 604-922-6292, www.kissandmakeupstore.com
Emerald NotesGreen shadows are making their biggest return since the ’80s. Avoid looking like the Jersey clan from Working Girl and opt for a shadow that’s easy on the glitter and with a slightly pearly finish, as seen at Jason Wu’s presentation. Editor’s Pick: Stila Eye Shadow in Jade, $24 at Beautymark, 1268 Pacific Blvd., Vancouver, 604-642-2294, www.beautymark.ca
BlushedWinter fresh is the best way to describe this flushed cheek seen at Michael Kors, Preen and Issa. Keep it looking youthful by keeping the rest of the face clean and opting for a dewy cream blush. Editor’s Pick: Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush in Truth and Dare, $30 at Sephora.
Poof and BandChanneling Brigitte Bardot and a current It Girl Lana Del Rey, bouffants are the up-dos of the season, seen in the ladylike collections of Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera (pictured). What you need is a lot of hairspray, some backcombing action, and a headband to top it off. With a sultry ‘60s poof, this is not a schoolgirl look. Editor’s Pick: Goody Iconoclass Satin Headbands (2 pack), $5.99 at London Drugs.

Feeling Groovy
When you feel good, you look good.
Such is the theory behind Lush’s new Emotional Brilliance cosmetics line. It goes a little something like this: you spin a wheel and pick the first three colours that call to you; this editor chose fuschia, neon pink and bold blue. Each corresponds to a feeling (passionate, drive and motivation respectively) and a handmade cosmetic - in this case, a lipstick, lip stain and liquid eyeliner. So you can forget the colours of the season, and opt for the colours of your feelin’s. —Kelsey Dundon

Pretty in the City
Vancouver has become the first Canadian city to inspire a highly-coveted palette from Stila.
“Vibrant in Vancouver” pays homage to the city’s iconic locales, from the golden green Cypress to pearly English Bay. Vancouver Island’s native flower, the Tiger Lily, plays double duty as a convertible lip and cheek colour. The hues are fresh and lovely, and definitely worthy of our gorgeous city. As for the rest of Canada’s beauties, don’t be jealous, maybe it will be you next. —Anya Georgijevic$21 at Shoppers Drug Mart, www.shoppersdrugmart.ca

Pretty Beautiful, Eh
Summer calls for a healthy, rosy glow, nothing too overdone. Since powders can get fussy under the hot sun and turn our frown upside down, Happy Face is here to save the day.
Canadian beauty staple Lise Watier's "Happy Face" Tinted Cheek Gel keeps us looking fresh from a.m. to p.m. This cheek stain goes on smooth and dries completely matte. It's incredibly easy to apply with just a light touch on the fingertips. As everything melts away, we stay the same.
No sticky icky. —AG

TOP 5: SPRING BEAUTY TRENDS WITH JORDY POON
Vancouverite Jordy Poon has hit it big in New York City, beautifying the likes of Sienna Miller, Katy Perry, Devon Aoki, supermodel Liu Wen and editorials in Vogue, Elle, Nylon and Russh. We caught up with him to discuss spring make-up trends.
Bright Eyes
S/S 2011 is all about strokes of bold colour on the eyes. Nothing too technical-looking but more of a smudge or a wash of colour across the lids. I love all of Lancôme's new Color Design Eye Brightening All-In-One five shadow and liner palettes. They come in beautiful bold colours and are easy to use. Purple is the biggest colour for spring.
Bold Lips
After so many seasons, bold lips are still a big beauty statement. Now we are leaning more towards a matte or creamy texture. Nothing frosted, metallic, pearlized or sparkly. In terms of colour, it’s about reds and pinks. Try NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils for a one step quick fix.
Eyeliner
Eyeliner is always a good way to accessorize and accent your style. I love Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils. They go on effortlessly.
Contoured Cheeks
The contoured cheek look is definitely the only way to apply blush this season. Try neutral blushes or use your powder bronzer to create shape. As for bright pinks or peaches, use them only as an accent over the sculpted cheeks.
Matte Skin
Natural glowing skin never goes out of style, but we are starting to appreciate a perfectly powdered complexion. If you have never worn powder, this is the season to experiment. On the other hand, if you have been wearing powder for the past fifteen years, it's time to throw it out!Check out our interview with Poon and view some of his work on our Editors’ Diary. —AG

Lavender Lovely
The last time we tried a homemade oatmeal scrub, more ended up in our mouth than on our face.
Leave it to Jiadé. The Port Coquitlam-based beauty brand is first in Canada to be USDA certified organic, comprised of the simplest ingredients like essential oils and botanical extracts. Its lavender facial toner ($21.40) and moisturizer for normal and combination skin ($42.80) were both feather light and refreshingly fragrant like the garden, leaving our skin in seventh heaven.Delicious dermis.
