    All Dolled Up

Sure she’s daddy’s little girl, but it’s your closet that Little Miss Dress Up raids come playtime.

Spare the Loeffler Randall sandals, but spoil her inner Rachel Zoe, with Dace Paper Dolls. A collaboration with Philadelphia fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw, the doll and the fall 2010 Dace fashions to dress it with are a free download. The first look featuring a knit dress, ankle booties and a billowy jacket is now online, and more will follow in the next couple of months.

Suddenly saying “cut that out” sounds so obliging.

    Montreal Dolls

You gave up on big box toy stores when your little one started asking for a Malibu blonde with a perma-tan.

The Montreal-made Raplapla collection is both creative and cuddly—and innocent enough for the toy box. The quirky limited edition rag dolls (think multi-coloured spiky hair and funky clothing) come with their own names, occupations and ethnicities, like Océane, the clairvoyant Portuguese plumber (pictured).

After all, dolls shouldn’t require SPF and a  pink convertible.

From $38, buy online at http://boutique.raplapla.com

    mini, mini, me

Not every kid looks like she rolled off the assembly line at Mattel.

So if you’re looking for a doll that your kid can relate to, look no further than the custom “mini me” dolls handmade by West Vancouver’s Bamboletta.

Designed to look like a tiny version of your tot, the Dutch-cotton and lambswool dolls come in a choice of five skin tones and infinite eye colours.

A perfect birthday gift, or to ease the arrival of a new sibling, they even incorporate the child’s personality and favourite colours into the design and clothing—like the gorgeous green wool cardigan and jeans that came with ours.

Freckles and glasses are optional. For the doll that is.

Baby and toddler versions available ($120). Delivery is 6-8 weeks. For more information and to view dolls, visit www.bamboletta.com
