Ombré All the Way
Dazed & Confused fashion editor and Gareth Pugh runway stylist Katie Shillingford has the sartorial daring to dye her hair ombré. We like something a little less permanent.
Which is why we love Lifetime Collective’s Digits dress. Made of silk that graduates from white to midnight blue, the sporty shift is fashion-forward yet utterly unfussy. It’s already sold out online, but we found the frock at the Vancouver label’s special pop-up shop inside Gastown’s One of A Few. Snap it up before it fades away.
$160 at Lifetime in One of A Few, 354 Water St., Vancouver, 604-605-0685, www.lifetimecollective.com

Best of the Blogs: Designer DIY
Tired of merely drooling over Fashion Week frocks, we combed the blogosphere for some designer duds we could duplicate. Grab a sewing kit, some dye and DIY:
• Replicate Doo.Ri’s bedazzled tights with guidance from Shini Park of Park & Cube.
• Commissioned by Who What Wear, Erica Domesek shows you how to recreate the tie-dyed looks of Proenza Schouler.
• As writer and Vitamin Daily ambassador Sarah Nicole Prickett discovers, it just takes a pair of scissors to turn a $59.99 Joe Fresh trench coat into a Celine dress.Have your own designer DIY idea? Post it on our Forum.

Holly Would
A modern day Holly Golighty looking for fame-worthy frocks would shop where the walls are painted Tiffany Blue.
That shop is the brand new Holly. Stocked with lines beloved by stars (La Rok, Rachel Pally, Jay Godfrey) and made by stars (Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow, Erin Wasson’s Low Luv), thumbing through the boutique’s racks is like flipping through the style section of US Weekly. What would we get snapped in? Kain grey pocket tee ($98), Genetic Denim black lace cigarette jean ($290) and Charlie My Love blue tie-dye sandals ($280).Someone tell TMZ style has flown North for the spring.

He Sprays, She Sprays
We took an scent census around the office and came up with six lovely pairs of perfumes for him and her. Herewith, our staff picks.
Marianne Wisenthal, Montreal editor, English edition
Couples who spray together, stay together. When we’re not stealing spritzs of our man’s woody Grey Vetivert by Tom Ford ($100), he’s dipping into our bottle of Private Blend Italian Cypress (from $210). Both at Holt Renfrew.
Tara Parker Tait, Publisher
Opposites attract with Parisian cult favourite Annick Goutal's Petite Chérie (finally, she divulges her secret scent!) for her ($110 at the Bay) and the luxe Hermès Poivre Samarcande ($250 at Hermès) for him.
Joy Pecknold, Vancouver editor
For a date night, spritz Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb ($120 at Holt Renfrew), a bouquet of sweet, fruity florals. If the boy shows up smelling of John Varvatos’ Artisan ($70 at Sephora), this relationship may have serious potentional.
Malwina Gudowska, Calgary editor
French girl meets American boy: YSL’s Parisienne ($65) is a match with the masculine John Varvatos Classic ($78). Both at Sephora.
Tonya Albulet, Western Sales Manager
Lalique's Amethyst ($110), with top notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, comes in a bold purple bottle worthy of your nightstand. If your BF wears Lacoste Pour Homme Grey ($75), it's meant to be. Both at Holt Renfrew.
Elsa Vecchi, Montreal editor, French edition
A spritz for you, a dab for him. A summery scent that is fresh and classic, Vétiver by Guerlain is made for a man, but also smells lovely on a lady. $95 at Holt Renfrew.February 1st, 2010
Fancy Feet
We wouldn’t mind walking a mile in Audrey Hepburn’s shoes. The closest we get is slipping our foot into Ferragamo.
For the month of February, the Salvatore Ferragamo shop on Robson Street will feature its limited edition Creations collection of iconic bag and shoe designs from the archives. Only available in a handful of cities around the world, the handmade collection features footwear originally made for more famous feet, like Judy Garland’s platform sandal circa 1938 (pictured) and Marilyn Monroe’s go-to stiletto created in 1959. To boot, the label’s collaboration with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto also makes its Canadian debut at the store this month.Yohji brogues and Sophia Loren sling-backs in one stop? Are you ready boots? Start walking.

Even Steven
It’s time to trade auld for new and exchange carols for Carrall Street.
That’s where you’ll find new boutique, Lynn Steven. What once housed a rowdy saloon where Joe Fortes served drinks some hundred years prior is now a house of style. Owner Nicole Dennis Durnin has stocked her shop with brilliant embellished basics, like white tees covered in studs (Monrow, $105) and little navy dresses adorned with zippers (Isabel Lu, $160).There’s also cozy knitwear by local line Granted, gemstone jewellery by celeb-favourite Pade Vavra and, come spring, luxe tops by Toronto designer Erin Kleinberg.
But it’s not just the new product that’s worth stopping in for. In the centre of the store, a circular wall made of 5,600 old books conceals the change room—that’s what you call chic lit.

Paul Smith Evian Bottle
When drinking festive drinks, it’s important to stay hydrated, but that might as well be festive too.
English designer Sir Paul Smith has lent his signature colourful stripes to a limited edition bottle of Evian. And it’s no hollow endorsement, as Smith professes to be an Evian drinker since the tender age of twelve. With streams of bright hues adorning the bottle, it’s perfect for putting out at a pre-Christmas or New Years’ Eve fete. We’ll get an early start on our resolution to drink more water too.
