Pop-up shops are…well, popping up all over the place. So we’ve picked a few of our favourites.

We're going to start calling it Three of a Few because right now One of a Few  is home to a trio of pop-up shops. Pretty dresses and jewelry by Isabelle Dunlop, Moroccan home decor by 21 Tonnes and lovely finds at Gypsy Market Vintage. 354 Water St., Vancouver.

    The Found and the Freed

    Red Flag Design Shop
Founded by two Vancouver designers, this pop-up features hand-crafted pieces from some of our local favourites: Banquet Atelier & Workshop, Mono Clothing and Hunt & Gather, as well as Red Flag Design's Sail cloth bags and more. 318 Industrial Ave., Vancouver.

    Blenz at Fourth and Alma
‘Tis the season for cupcakes and chai nog lattes. The Blenz pop-up shop at 4th and Alma is rotating through specialties from local bakeries. Indulge! This time of year is a dessert free-for-all. W. Fourth and Alma, Vancouver. —Kelsey Dundon

    Petite Pop-Up

We love the occasional visit to fashion and art market Portobello West, but sometimes a Sunday morning is best spent in bed or drinking Ceasars over brunch.

Which is why we were thrilled to hear that some of the market's best designer wares will be sold in Portobello Petite, a pop-up store open during the month of August. With fashion, childrenswear, and chocolates by Elroy Apparel, Jenn Ellis, Street Cat Designs, littleMoSo and Beta5, the selection is anything but small.

Market shopping… without sacrificing our Sunday mornings. We could get used to this. —Alexandra Suhner Isenberg

August 4-27 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Portobello Petite At the Rize Pop Up Shop, Kingsway and E. 10th Ave., Vancouver, www.portobellowest.com

    A Great Caper

As summer segues to fall, all fashion talk turns to transition pieces. This means nubby knee-length socks ’neath chunky sandals, boy blazers over feminine frocks, and for we West Coasters, the all important rain slicker.

Defeat downpours with Lily + Jae’s Charley Cape ($180). Made of rain repellent waxed cotton with double-breasted snaps, the cute hooded cover-up is perfect topper when caught in an unexpected September shower.

In black or caramel, the cloak can be found at the label’s new four month pop-up shop within One of A Few. There you can also snap up the rest of the sophisticated collegiate fall collection, past pieces and vintage sourced by designer Jude Feller on her global escapades.

    Now you're cloaked in style.

    Generation Wear

From Generation X to Generation A, Douglas Coupland’s latest project is a collection of Canadian souvenirs for a new generation.

In collaboration with Roots, the Vancouver artist-author has designed a limited edition line of clothing and accessories that digitize the down-home, from a test pattern t-shirt dress for ladies ($68) to motherboard print leggings for babies ($14.95). There’s also laptop sleeves, passport wallets and backpacks emblazoned with Coupland’s idea of a Canadian crest, complete with moose, igloo and satellite dish.

And that a pop culture man like Coupland should get his own Gastown pop-up shop to house his colour-popping collection is only fitting.

    Good Buys

Shopping has its merits, but shopping at Philanthropy has that much more.

The new concept store by pop-up retailer The Latest Scoop sells products sourced by them, as well as items donated by the likes of Harriet Grey jewellery, New Balance, Christine’s Lingerie and Kiss & Makeup that directly benefit local children’s charities. Occupying the old Duthie Books location in Kits, the outpost only stays open for a few more weeks, but receives new merchandise regularly.

Retail therapy just got a whole lot more therapeutic.
