    Deck the Heels

Last year you really wanted the fringed Louboutins and this year it’s Isabel Marant’s studded ankle boot, but instead you’ve opted for plainer pairs to see you through many seasons. Erica Giuliani is here to make your designer heel dreams come true.

The Toronto company creates shoe accessories like bejeweled clips, studded boot belts, and chains to take your footwear from average to au courant. We love the zipper trim clip ($50) that when put on a black peep toe gives you the look of a Giuseppe Zanotti pair. And mimic those Louboutins with the fringed anklet (pictured, $28) or Isabel Marant boots with the studded belt ($70).

Even if your pumps hit the dump, these accessories live to adorn another pair.

    Head Strong

Ask a little girl what she wants to be when she grows up and you can hear any response from “Princess” to “Prime Minister.”

Equal parts poised and pretty, the cotton knit giant paiettes headband with an embellished flower (US$40) from e-shop Kicokids is serious enough for tough tea party talks and whimsical enough for playing dress-up.

And she’ll always have a good head on her shoulders.

    The Main Event

The big one this weekend is undoubtedly the Junos, but there’s another, much smaller cultural gathering that’s got the goods too.

Before you watch husky-voiced Bryan Adams take the stage, head to the BLIM Community Market. At the first of what will be a regular end-of-month event, there’ll be local clothing and accessories, live music by sweet synth-poppers Fine Mist, food, and vintage finds of all kinds.

You’ll find us at the It’s Your Life table mulling over which whimsical necklace to buy.

    BLIM Community Market, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., March 29, Cambrian Hall, 215 E. 17th Ave., Vancouver, www.blim.ca

Save the date: H&M's Roberto Cavalli collection drops Thursday, November 8.

    BE JEWELLED

Vancouver jewellery designer Shereen De Rousseau may take her name from a French political philosopher, but there's no need to be bookish to understand her style.

We love the "marbre gris" collection of howlite beads (and so does Carmen Elektra) and the eclectic "colibri noir" group with its vintage medallions, burnished birds, crosses and keys that seem to tell a story.

Like, "Once upon a time there was a mysterious young woman who left a trail of broken hearts in her wake…."

The next chapter is up to you.

    bring on the bling

Ah, the little black dress. Sexy, slimming and arguably a girl's best friend, post-holiday bingeing on grandma's apple pie and one too many eggnogs.

So, you may have worn it to every New Year's Eve party since 1985. Join the club.

With Vancouver's ultra-casual dress code, who needs to rack up the credit card for a fabulous gown that won't see the light of day?

Especially, when we can glam up our little black dress with local jewelry designer Lien Duong's gorgeous, and strikingly affordable creations.

Choose from candy-coloured bohemian feather earrings (Jessica Alba scooped up a pair in bubble-gum pink), Lien's signature Swarovski cocktail rings, or sleeker than sleek stiletto earrings.

But we have to warn you. With pieces starting at just $25, you'll be tempted to pick-up one (or three) of each.

Available at Ayden Gallery, 88 Pender St., 2nd Flr. Tinseltown, (Call 778-891-4310 for hours); Cattiva, 836 Granville St., 604-608-1141; Room 430, 430 Homer St. 604-708-0255.

    be dazzled

The London store Accessorize has officially opened its monument to frippery and finery on Robson Street, and in typical Brit fashion, the store's awash in next year's trends.

But the Chelsea girl's best kept secret is Accessorize handbags.

Averaging $45 a pop, you'll be tempted to buy one for every outfit you own. From structured orange suede, to slouchy, tawny leather with buckles, to embroidered and dripping with burnished metal beads, you'll be chanelling Kate Moss in no time.

And since you got there first, you'll be the glittering envy of the New Years Eve party, with whispers of 'has she been dating someone in London?'

So go ahead and tell them you have a new paramour. Just don't tell them it's a store.

Accessorize is located at 1167 Robson St., 604-689-1272. View styles at www.monsoon.co.uk
