    Designer Digits

We’re spicing up our mani in the most fashionable way possible.

Thakoon – a favourite designer of everyone from the U.S.A’s fashionable First Lady to Hollywood style-setters like Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba – has teamed up with Nars to create a Bollywood-inspired nail polish collection that hits counters tomorrow.

Must-have shades include Anardana, a pomegranate-esque pink and Amchoor, a gorgeous yellow reminiscent of the citrusy spice common in India.

Don’t let the $21 per bottle price tag scare you: With his dresses starting at a cool $725, these polishes are affordable, at least by Thakoon standards! —Christine Laroche

    Hungry Eyes

The boys in The Hunger Games are a tad underwhelming (sorry!), but one strapping man gives us summer beauty inspiration.

While the other Capitolians sport ridiculous neon-coloured manes, overly manicured talons, and falsies that would make Shu Uemura gasp, Cinna (played by the ageless Lenny Kravitz) is the picture of elegance with his signature gold eyeliner. This simple golden stroke created with Make Up For Ever’s gold Metal Powder is a subtle springtime look, promising to dazzle under the beaming sun rays. We’re opting for a convenient, small purse-appropriate Aqua Liner in Diamond Gold, because something tells us Cinna would approve of minimalism. —Anya Georgijevic

    Pretty in Pastels

Dreamy pastels are on everyone’s mind this spring, from the runways of Phillip Lim, to Chanel’s beauty counters.

One Canadian brand, Jacob, serves up the finest confectionary colour palette with a line of affordable and formaldehyde-free nail lacquers. Their freshest concoctions include Retro Chic, a frothy cantaloupe hue, Miss Mousseline, a cotton candy pink, and Sunny Capri, a soft lemon meringue yellow. They might make you crave a cupcake or two, but your nails will look just as delicious. —Anya Georgijevic

    Green Routine

New year = new you. Detoxes, diets, 30-day yoga challenges… Clean living is a big project.

To help our skin do the same, Pangea Organics packaged their most popular products into three Skincare Discovery Kits, targeted for different skin types. Pangea is the cult favourite among the green-minded celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Christy Turlington and packed with exotically unconventional, but powerful, antioxidant ingredients like Adzuki Bean and Nigerian Ginger. Its Japanese Matcha Tea formulated Facial Mask with Acai and Goji Berry is a one-step skin wonder, leaving the face looking instantly refreshed.

Before we can twist into that perfect Scorpion pose (because we’re sure Gwyneth and Christy can), it’s all about baby steps, right? —Anya Georgijevic

    Nail Attraction

Even the most die hard nail fanatic can get a bit bored of the sheer number of new nail polishes launched on a monthly basis.

We’ve seen it all when it comes to trendy colours, quick dry, or crazy nail art, but it is rare to find something completely new in the world of nail polish. That’s why we got very excited when we discovered Nails Inc’s new magnetic nail polish. Coat your nail with the polish, which includes metallic particles, and then use the magnet embedded in the cap to create shapes and patterns.

And make sure to apply it a good distance away from your fridge! —Alexandra Suhner Isenberg

    Don’t Call it a Comeback

But Miss Piggy is back and she’s bigger than ever!

In a new role as a French Vogue fashion editor in The Muppets, our favourite swine has conquered every headline. Between her spread in InStyle and feuds with fellow blondes Carrie Underwood and Lady Gaga, Piggy has found time to delight us with two beauty collections. We can now be glam a la Piggy, with the Miss Piggy for M.A.C. eyeliner ($21) and luscious falsies ($18). And we can let our nails shine in a festive glittery red with O.P.I Muppets Collection’s Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It ($10.95), although (shhh, don’t tell her) the colour we really covet is Pepe’s Purple Passion.

Let’s face it: this swine is truly divine. —Anya Georgijevic

O.P.I’s Muppets Collection is available now at Pure Nail Bar, www.purenailbar.com, and Miss Piggy for M.A.C arrives November 14th at www.maccosmetics.com

    Rain on Me

Vancouver has a certain reputation to uphold, and a rainy one.

Our signature drizzle is now celebrated as a spa treatment: the Vancouver Signature Sensation at the city’s newest luxury spa destination, Sense at Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

The designated Vichy spa room may be described as a rather large shower with a bed in it. Sounds ingenious, right? A shower while lying down. Using a local skincare line, Beauty Through Balance, one is exfoliated with a peppermint and basil-infused sea salt, leaving the skin with a breezy, cooling sensation, as it is showered away by warm water. Then, a massage with seaweed concentrate-mixed shea butter awakens the skin and the muscles. Water, salt, seaweed… we're loving this weather. —Anya Georgijevic

80/110 mins. $175/$225 at Sense, a Rosewood Spa, Rosewood Hotel Georgia, 801 W. Georgia St., Vancouver, 604-673-7045, www.rosewoodhotelgeorgia.com

    House Call

We all remember the Fairy Godmother, but no one gives credit to the little friends that helped Cinderella get ready for the ball (it was Jaq and Gus, by the way).

When we needed an at-home pedi, pronto, it was Amanda from SpaMobile to the rescue. With a full service aesthetics menu (nails, facials, waxing), Amanda will bring everything she needs to your door (including OPI polish and a stack of magazines) and set you up comfortably in your own home or office. Perfect for women with jam-packed schedules or limited time to leave the house for appointments, in-your-living-room spa services just might be the final frontier of private pampering.

And in this modern day fairytale, the two mice are replaced with your gay besties and the glass slipper is now a YSL pump, which you slipped on yourself, of course. —Maria Tallarico

    Big Up Your Hair

It takes a great new hair care product to make you realize that the old one you’ve been using for years has lost its effectiveness…

That’s what happened when we tried Moroccanoil’s new Extra Volume shampoo and conditioner, which actually does what it says on the bottle. With fancy ingredients like Tilicine (derived from a hibiscus flower) and no phosphates and parabens, the result was voluminous, bouncy hair. And don’t be fooled by the small bottles, these are concentrated products. Use a small amount and add a lot of water.

It’s funny how a bounce in your hair can result in a bounce in your step. —Alexandra Suhner Isenberg

    Seasonal Skin Saver

If you are only going to have two facials a year, those in the know recommend that you have them when the seasons change.

With fall looming, now’s the time to book yourself into Sabai Thai Spa for one of their Sabai signature facials. This includes the usual cleansing, exfoliation and moisturizing, but the best part is rhythmic massage with a herbal compress made of detoxifying Thai White Clay and twenty traditional healing herbs such as tumeric and lemongrass.

The treatment ends with a ginger tea, to flush all those nasties out of your system. Now you're ready to face winter! —Alexandra Suhner Isenberg
