Just ask our girl crush Jenna Lyons, J.Crew’s creative director and the epitome of American chic. Always incredibly polished, yet understated, Jenna’s preferred red is Heat Wave by Nars ($24 at Nars). Another lady known for her perfect red pout is the ever-so-cool Gwen Stefani, who wears L’Oreal’s Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick in Ravishing Red ($13 at Shoppers Drug Mart). Whether nude to offset a smoky eye or bold to steal the show—matte lipstick is making the rounds from runways to red carpets. Much to our delight we needn’t go farther than the local drugstore to find a fetching formula.

The new collection of matte lipsticks from Revlon has dually impressed us by going on ridiculously smoothly and staying put. Of the 10 on-trend colours, we’re currently switching between the pink that pops (“Pink About It”) and red that’s right out of Mad Men (“Really Red”)—each just $10 a tube.
