Dishlickin' Good
Here's where you can tell people—nicely—to shove their incessant Twitpics of stuff they're eating.
Dishlicker, a new amateur food-porn site, collects money shots from cool meal-eaters around the world. Contributors so far include fashion girls, band guys, chefs and a Manhattan tour guide. They're snap-and-chewing wild boar ragu from Carluccio's in Cardiff, whitebait sushi from Tsurutontan in Tokyo, a margarita from Mario's Pizza in Sydney. Where's Canada? Soon to be repped by DJ Rory Them Finest and Justin Peroff, the Broken Social Scene drummer and sweetheart. If you see a familiar slice of Terroni on the site, it's his. —SNPJanuary 26th, 2011
Icing on the cake
What girl doesn’t swoon over fanciful clothes and cakes covered in colourful icing?
I love muffins is an adorable blog filled with deliciously pretty images of both. It’s hard not to get swept away by the starry halos, glittery ponchos and printed frocks. The baked goods are equally gorgeous – especially this Marie Antoinette themed one.We tried out these brezel muffins and they truly are yummy.
Serve wearing a tulle skirt and a smile.

Gone Digital
As much as we adore leafing through our perfumed glossies, the new tide of paperless mags gets our vote too.
Here in Toronto, both Covet Garden and The Kit have people talking. The former, a home décor magazine, spotlights the gorgeous east-end home of illustrator Julia Breckenreid and her partner, user-experience designer Ryan Feeley, in its first issue.“We take a peek into the homes and lives of some of the city’s most interesting people—spaces that have not been styled by interior decorators. Covet Garden is inspirational, not aspirational,” say the founders.
Over at The Kit, a team of veteran magazine editors offers readers a digital beauty experience that addresses the body inside and out. Expect well-written, snappy articles on diet, exercise and hair, skin and beauty trends.
If digi-mags do end up booting those glossies out the door, here’s what to do with your vintage Vogues.

Inside the Smart Girls' Studio
Does the thought of your daughter looking up to socialite panty flashers keep you up at night?
Creating an outlet for bright and funny females is web series Smart Girls at the Party. Hosted by Amy Poehler (of Saturday Night Live fame), the short webisodes are filmed with a wink towards Inside the Actors Studio, but instead of celebrities, you get intelligent females, like 7-year-old skateboarder and feminist Ruby. This is Girl Power we can get behind.

TV For Free
Cancelling cable for the summer saves us from reruns, but denies us those late-night guilty pleasures known as Legends of the Fall and Cruel Intentions.
Good thing GlobalTV.com is streaming those and other titles online all summer long. Free and with minimal commercials, there’s always seven films to choose from and they change over every two weeks. Best part is, unlike cable, if you can’t wait till late to watch Can’t Hardly Wait (on this week’s roster), you don’t have to.

Read Between the Lines
Wedding vows, your resume, that break-up email… there are some things we agonize over for hours.
Look at your words with fresh eyes thank to www.wordle.net. The online toy creates striking word clouds from the text you provide and has quickly become our new obsession. The process couldn’t be simpler: upload your text, hit create, and let the algorithm work its magic. The more often words are mentioned, the bigger they appear in the word cloud, so you can tell instantly if you’re really getting your point across. Our inner geek loves playing with the fonts, colours and layout for a one-of-a-kind piece of abstract art.
Now we’re off to experiment with our three favourite words: Vitamin Daily Toronto.

Bookmark a Bargain
We just added the Toronto décor site styleNorth to our daily blogroll. Founder Christopher Jones started it for anyone with great taste but limited means and he has a fabulous eye for fine finds in and around the GTA.
Check out his top tips for Making the Most of Craigslist including all-important rules of haggling. - If an item is well-priced, don’t haggle, pounce
- If you want to make a lower offer, do so during the email or telephone exchange – not at the viewing
- Ask directly about an item’s condition; press for details on any rips, tears or cracks
- Don’t be afraid to walk away. You are under no obligation just because you booked an appointment to see the piece
PS: These suggestions can also apply to first dates.
