Take us to the discotheque
“It's 1980, you're wearing Armani and you're driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in your Mercedes-Benz 450SL”
That’s how Douglas Chow describes his Montreal electro-funk outfit AXXE, whose '70s/'80s disco pop unabashedly borrows from the Bay City Rollers and 10cc. We love their video for the ¡BORRACHO! remix of Hard Candy made up of deliciously bad '80s fashion and clips from Boogie Nights. Perfectly suited to fashion runways and Friday night cocktails, its upcoming EP Mainstream includes a kick-ass S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y. Night Neon Workout remix that can be heard on the Hugo Boss website.
Who said disco was dead?
AXXE EP launch party, from 7 p.m., October 4th, tickets $5, $35 with dinner Restaurant Atma, 3962 St-Laurent Blvd., Montreal, 514-798-8484.

Hillbilly Howler
It takes a certain kind of chutzpah to sing country music on Saint Laurent Boulevard.
Plateau hipsters can’t get enough of singer-songwriter Li’l Andy and now the cowboy crooner has added a new layer to his sound by blending country-noir with traditional gospel. His third album All Who Thirst Come to the Waters is a selection of rich and reflective tunes recorded among the pews of 19th century St. Jean Baptiste Cathedral.
Yeeha and amen to that.Li'l Andy’s All Who Thirst Come to the Waters CD launch 9 p.m., tickets $8, tonight at Sala Rossa, 4848 St-Laurent Blvd., Montreal, 514-284-0122, www.casadelpopolo.com

Golden Opportunity
We’ve been to candle parties, Tupperware parties and sex toy parties, but we’ve finally found a way to up the ante.
Turn that same-old shopping soiree on its head by hosting a Gold Party. Book online, warm up the brie and invite your besties to bring their unwanted gold and platinum jewellery. While your guests sip on wine and nibble canapés, an expert appraiser will help them trade-in their limp old baubles for some crisp new bills. Now that's golden, girl.

ARTY PARTY
Need to channel your kids’ creative energy? Have them paint on someone else’s walls for a change at the 4Cats Arts Academy (now with 10 locations).
Its Jackson Pollack birthday parties get the kids splattering stylishly on massive canvases, and this fall’s Georgia O’Keefe classes will have them turning up roses.
Think your kid really has talent? Before you stick a $3,000 price tag on their chef d’oeuvre and send it to Monte Clark, watch the fantastic documentary, My Kid Could Paint That about the rise and fall of a 4-year-old New York artist.
Ah, fleeting fame.
