What Joe Knows
We love re-stocking our fridge while re-vamping our wardrobe, but sometimes we need some fashion focus.
Joe Fresh's new 14,500 square-foot freestanding Studio is a jewel to behold. Housed in the stately Jean-Talon train station, it carries women’s, men’s and kid’s togs that had us feeling decidedly single-minded. We spotted a grey silk blouse ($39), matching mom-and-daughter motorcycle jackets ($49/$29), black stretch capris ($16), and a delicate pink lace bra ($16).Put them all together and we’ll be multi-tasking in style.

My One and Only
After a season of stripping down we’re pretty excited to cover up those tan lines.
For fall we’re filling our closet with military-inspired pieces from Only’s first downtown boutique at Place Montreal Trust. The Danish brand carries comfy stylish clothes that are fabulously affordable. We’ll pair the caviar Sergent Wool Campaign coat ($119) with slouchy grey Lala chinos ($45). Or, an eggplant Tower PU bomber jacket ($85) with blue-wash stretch jeans ($49) and kick-ass army boots.March on.

What Generation Gap?
You don't wear "mom jeans," so why should your brood?
The new kids and babies version of Gap's 1969 Premium Denim jeans are just like yours with dark washes, distressed grey denim, skinny styles and zipper ankles, all with adjustable waistbands so you don't have to worry about them flashing too much bum. Good jeans run in the family, obviously.

Lunch a la Mode
Fashion in the food court? Yes indeed.
Gearing up for its 50th anniversary, Place Ville Marie has launched a retrospective celebrating our city’s schmata past. Grouped by decade from 1850 to today, Montréal and Fashion: So Many Years, So Much to Show features massive images of stylish Expo 67 hostesses, iconic Gazette fashion editor Iona Monahan, a display of vintage bras (including the first push-up!) and a stunning fur-trimmed aubergine robe by designer Michel Desjardins.Pad Thai on a tray has never tasted so chic.

Back to the Future
An online store becomes a bricks-and-mortar shop? Now that's as backwards as a Dr. Seuss book.
But it's true: Ashley York the website is now Ashley York the store, new to The Pier on Bowen Island B.C. The best selling clothes and accessories are made by moms, such as the rough-edged denim "guy ties" ($19). We loved the albino sock monkeys, baby balls made from vintage fabrics and the polka dot Australian splat mats for under the highchair.
Not goin' to Bowen? There's even more available online.Ashley York, The Pier at Bowen Island, 604-947-2200, www.shopashleyyork.com

Trusst Us
The owners of Trusst call their new space “a platform for creative evolution.”
The room itself is a De Stijl-inspired work of art with concrete walls, metal piping and black floating staircase. More fashion gallery than clothing boutique, it showcases emerging talent like recent Central St. Martin’s grad Derek Lawlor, whose cashmere cord dress ($5,000) would look apropos on Lady Gaga, or hanging on a wall. We also loved co-owner Melissa Matos’ gold Powerhaus necklace with magnifying glass and Dane Richard’s outrageous frock fringed with real human hair.Is that creative? Trusst us it is.

Well Bred and Well Read
We’re into looks but we’re also into books.
With iPads and Kindles taking over, we think it’s time to celebrate the paperback. Out of Print’s literary-inspired t-shirts ($28) feature classic (but sadly discontinued) book covers like a first edition of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, 1962’s Lord of the Flies and The Hound of the Baskervilles in turquoise v-neck. We like that ladies shirts are slim-fitting and made from soft distressed-cotton and for each shirt sold, a book is donated to kids in Africa.Book smart indeed.

Seven Nation Army
Whether you’re in it for pure sport or sheer pleasure (read: fit foreign boys), football fever is everywhere.
We’re showing our true colors in a limited-edition shirt from Umbro’s World Champions Collection (from $40). Artists from past winning nations have created seven funky designs that scream Ole, Ole, Ole. Ninteen-fifty champion Uruguay features a hand-drawn dripping effect, while Italy’s image by Tanino Liberatore looks like a '70s rock god. And Bob Eine’s red lion, crown and castle crest on England’s jersey? To that we say, Goaaall!

Sew Easy!
When people like Heidi Montag and Whitney Port have their own fashion lines, it’s almost embarrassing that we can barely stitch a hem.
We’re putting an end to our sewing woes, starting with the Basics workshop ($35) at Emeline and Annabelle’s Atelier Couture Café. Once we master bobbins and buttons, we’ll move on to the A-Line Skirt or Summer Dress workshops ($95 each), or just choose from one of their patterns and gorgeous fabrics to create our own looks on one of their 7 Bernina sewing workstations (drop-in rate: $7/hour).Being a fashion designer is sew easy. Next up? Reality TV stardom.

Little Softie
Your kid's wardrobe runs the gamet from the practical (grey hoodie) to the ridiculous (remember when she would only leave the house in her Halloween costume for a month?).
Soft, a funky line of cotton clothing developed for children with sensitive skin, is as cool as it is comfortable. Tagless, zipperless and flat seamed, pieces are finished with eco-friendly enzyme washing to give them that soft, worn-in feeling. For a tongue-in-cheek dress-up session go for the unisex Tie Print tee (US$16, pictured). And to answer your question, yes, an adult line is coming soon.
