Another reason to love dry shampoo
Lea Michele’s Golden Globes dress left us lukewarm, but her messy-yet-chic coif more than made up for it. How did it stay put? We’re stealing a smart tip from her stylist.
Bobby pins are the gold standard for keeping updos, well, up, but they also happen to be prone to slippage. To keep Lea Michele’s messy French twist from malfunctioning, A-list hair stylist Mark Townsend sprayed the pins with Dove’s all-new Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo ($7.99) before placing them in Lea’s hair to create friction and keep them in place.
Why didn’t we think of that? —Christine Laroche

The Art of Hair
Bob Ross taught us that if you want to paint the perfect picture, you need to have the right brushes. So why do we still scrimp when it comes to our scalp?
Whether you brush 100 strokes every night or just strive to de-snarl, your hair is your crowning glory and thus deserves to be treated like a work of art. We wrangled with our tangles using Shu Uemura’s glossy air-cushioned paddle brush ($75) with natural boar and nylon bristles, and then employed the ergonomic handle of the large round brush ($65) to artistically arrange our body-licious blowout. Pretty as a picture! —JN

Tress Tamer
We know we’re no saint, so why do we look as though we have a halo?
Thanks to all the self-inflicted heat damage from blow-drying, flat-ironing and crimping (yes, crimping), we’ve developed an aura of frizz surrounding our do. So we used John Frieda’s Touch-up Flyaway Tamer ($14.99) from the Full Repair line to tame the broken strands around our face and crown. Just a few swipes of the magic wand and our hair looked smooth and frizz-free for the rest of the day.If only it were so easy to erase the rest of our sins.

Whip Your Hair
We keep trying to follow Willow Smith’s directions on how to whip our hair back and forth, but every time we do, our head erupts into a rebellious froth of frizz.
We’ll keep our locks in line with the citrus-scented Aveda Be Curly Style-Prep ($26.50), the newest addition to its Be Curly Curl Perfecting System. The lightweight lotion incorporates wheat protein, aloe, and natural oils to moisturize hair and define curls all day, sans crunchiness. Whip it good.

Hair Therapy
When the going gets tough, the tough get their hair did.
Sometimes a fresh cut and colour is all a girl needs to give her a little perspective. We stopped in at Salon E-Volve, where owner Carmen Marcovici analyzed our hair and gave us some straight talk on our lifeless locks (and our love life). We left with a new look and a new outlook on life.Who needs therapy when you’ve got hairapy?

Hair Song
I'm all strung up my hair is fried
I just can’t get you off my mind
Not three weeks into summer and already our hair is as bedraggled as Ke$ha. Our latest obsession for soft and shiny locks is leave-in Essence Absolue from Shu Uemura ($68), finally making its Quebec debut. Jennifer Aniston is a fan of this genie in a bottle formulated with Japanese Camellia Oil to soothe, smooth and control frizz. One or two drops worked through our frazzled locks after every shampoo has us singing a happy new tune.

Luxury Locks
New season? New 'do.
For a springtime pick-me-up, we’re treating our winter-worn hair to the new Chronologiste treatment from Kérastase. This intense, two-step treatment includes a creamy mask (to smooth hair and nourish the scalp) mixed with pumps of grey pearls formulated like caviar. Mix up your own batch at home ($150/10 applications) or opt for in-salon pampering, including a 30-minute head massage and cool glass of bubbly ($70). Perfect for all hair types, it left our colour-treated strands healthy and shiny. Our champagne wishes and caviar dreams just may have come true.

Catwalk Coiffure
They’re pros at attacking creases in our chemises, now Rowenta is working on our torrential tresses.
We’ve been rocking runway hair with the Infini Pro Sensor ($219.99), a ceramic hair dryer that shuts off when you put it down and uses ionic negative charge to prevent static. We also love that it dries our hair 20 per cent faster, leaving more time to choose runway-inspired habiliment. At Odyssée Le Loft Salon and Spa, 3801 Saint-Laurent Street, Montreal, 514-841-1000 and Orazio Spa Laval, 1750 Pierre Péladeau, Laval, 450-682-3900, www.spaorazio.com

Hair Apparent
We look a million bucks leaving the salon, but everyone knows the true test of a good haircut comes after the first wash.
With that goal in mind, each bottle of HerCut Catalyst styling product ($30.80) is formulated to suit your own specific ‘do. The Bob makes hair flow forward just so, The Blunt compresses volume, The Shag pushes strands apart and The Pixie shapes and contours. Full of hope, we applied a few pumps of Long Layers to freshly shampooed hair. Verdict? It makes the cut.

Mind Your Beeswax
We’d love a pixie cut à la Carey Mulligan, but all that morning maintenance has always put us off.
We might consider the snip now that Aveda is launching its Light Elements Shaping Wax ($32). Served in a recycled blue jar, it contains natural ingredients like organic beeswax, jojoba wax, pine rosinate (wood pulp made from pine trees), and Amur cork tree that moisturizes frizzy ends. It won’t weigh down your new 'do and you’ll love the citrus-y mandarin ginger aroma.Too bad it can’t fix our other morning challenge: Punctuality.
