    Full Steam Ahead

Finally we’re one step closer to having the skin of a dewy English rose.

British-born Steam Cream is a vegan lotion ($19) made from locally and ethically sourced ingredients like oatmeal infusion, orange flower water and lavender oil. We love that it’s multi-purpose (great on face, body and hands), lightweight (so no goopy residue) and comes in charming re-usable tins (perfect for all our baubles and beads).  Our fave? The Rita Hayworth inspired pink-and-black snakeskin design.

    God save the cream.

    Keep Calm and Carry On

We may be in denial about the last days of summer but our skin sure isn’t.

Irritated and angry (like our nerves after Labour Day) our face is a classic ‘over-reactor,’ so Dermalogica’s new UltraCalming line couldn’t come at a better time.  Geared to stressed-out skin, the fragrance-free Cleanser (from $43.50) and Serum Concentrate ($68) contain anti-inflammatory properties like ginger, oat and evening primrose oil that soothe redness while preventing loss of water.  We’ve been spritzing our face with UltraCalming Mist ($45.50) during bone-dry air travel and the Barrier Repair ($52.50) has guarded against future temper-tantrums.

    Okey Dokey Smokey

There’s a fine line between sexy-smoky and scary-raccoon eye–cross it and you’re Facebook photo roadkill.

Looking to save ourselves, we cast an eye into the kit of a top Montreal make-up artist and found gel-based Splash Proof Sealer/Base ($6.99) from LASplash. Start your routine by painting a fine layer on eyelids, then apply your favorite eyeshadow on top. Result? Hours of hold so no powder on lower lids and no stray smudging.

Now your reputation as a polished Facebook beauty can live another day.

    Fitness Al Fresco

The Scandinavian tradition of outdoor exercise has shaped nations of tall, tan and fit babes.

We’re taking our own fitness regime al fresco at Parc Jean-Drapeau, where Montreal company Trekfit has set up a permanent outdoor circuit. Geared to boosting cardio and targeting specific muscle groups, the five-station training circuit has 17 concrete equipment units including balance beams, step benches and monkey, push-up and parallel bars. Customize your own work-out or download a free training program from the Trekfit website (we like buns of steel!).

Will it make us taller and blonder? No, but we’re finally fit enough to catch a hot Swede.

    Fête the Feet

Aveda’s new series of foot treatments have made us hot to trot.

During our 90-minute Signature Pedicure ($85) our toes were slathered in gel then wrapped in hot towels to soften calluses. After being washed with Rosemary Mint cleanser, legs and feet were exfoliated with cooling salts (to boost circulation), slathered in a warm mask (to banish odor), massaged with hot stones and finished with Jojoba cream. After a lovely coat of Essie's Palmetto polish, we were sent off with a prescription for home care and spring in our step.

Our hands are green with envy.

    Sleeping Beauty's Secret

If dozing on your back prevents wrinkles, does that mean side-sleepers are destined to look like Shar-Peis?

Get wrinkle-free rest with a V-shaped enVy pillow ($200). Developed by registered nurses, its ergonomically designed memory foam cradles the head so no neck pain and no unsightly sleep lines. We like that it’s covered in bamboo cotton and comes with a carrying case so you can tote it along to sleepovers. And yes, smooth-skinned back sleepers can use it too.

    Too bad about the snoring.

    Team Effort

Does Angelina Jolie look picture perfect without lots of help? Most unlikely.

Get your own gang of little helpers (and we don’t mean kids) at the dial of a phone. S.W.A.T. is a team of “make-up dolls” who come to your house equipped with chairs, mirrors, professional lighting and kits full of L.A.-based lines like Girlactik and Classified Cosmetics. Each visit can be customized to suit a group of gals, or a private lesson just for you ($75).

Instead of fumbling with a mascara wand you can sit back, sip a martini and let your inner star shine.

    Hair Song

I'm all strung up my hair is fried

I just can’t get you off my mind

Not three weeks into summer and already our hair is as bedraggled as Ke$ha. Our latest obsession for soft and shiny locks is leave-in Essence Absolue from Shu Uemura ($68), finally making its Quebec debut. Jennifer Aniston is a fan of this genie in a bottle formulated with Japanese Camellia Oil to soothe, smooth and control frizz.

One or two drops worked through our frazzled locks after every shampoo has us singing a happy new tune.

    Strike a Pose

Two months after giving birth, Gisele was posing on the beach in a bikini. Then there's us mere mortals.

To look long and lean in our own sandbox, we love the Essentrics Workout, a stretching regime used by Olympic and NHL athletes for strength, speed and tighter bums. Now creators Miranda and Sahra Esmonde-White have opened their first downtown studio. Nestled in a historic coach house with exposed brick walls and lockers from California Closets, you might spot Vanessa Hudgens striking a pose, or skater Joannie Rochette practicing hip stretches at the barre. Sign up for private sessions (from $65) or an inch-busting bootcamp ($120/month).

    Bundchen, beware.
