Neighbourhood Watch

The south end of Ossington gets all the attention, while up north of Bloor, we've been clamouring for a cozy spot to call our own.

Years in the making, Actinolite has finally opened its doors with a well-edited seasonal menu that's going to keep the locals coming back for more. A starter salad ($12) was a well-thought-out bridge between winter and spring, with green onions and radishes brightening up the more-wintry shiitakes and sunchokes. We enjoyed watercress pesto tagliatelle ($18) topped with just-cooked mushrooms and perfectly toasted walnuts, and an Ontario Lamb Rack ($28). But the icing on the cake was the wonderfully chewy pavlova topped with a grapefruit cream and pink peppercorns ($9).

If you need me, I'll be enjoying a cocktail at the bar. And maybe another dessert. —Kat Tancock
