Before it was torn down, the original Mercury Lounge was the kind of place where everybody knew your name. Reincarnated down the street, the new Mercury is more sexy nightclub than neighbourhood bar, but plenty of us hold a torch for the legendary after-work hot spot that has passed.

Now the Concorde Group folks, whose establishments also include Bungalow, are hoping to recreate the vibe of the old Mercury at new watering hole Local 510. Panels of refurbished wood and fixtures reclaimed from old hotels? Check. A menu of simple and satisfying meals such as burgers and chicken pot pie? Check. Unadulterated old school cocktails like Negroni and Sazerac? Check.

And the new 510 boasts a wrap-around patio with plenty of booth seating, ideal for 17th Avenue people watching.

Out with the old, in with the new.
