Halloween: Campy Couples

Ah, Halloween is upon us and it’s time to have a little fun. Put away your French Maid and Naughty Nurse plans (actually, bury them), grab a friend or a lover and pay tribute to some of our favourite iconic duos.

Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin
May we say “the coolest couple ever”? He with his, um, charming looks and she with her '60s bags and impossibly long stems. For Serge: blue denim, black peacoat, a mop head hairdo, plus a cigarette in hand, of course. For Jane: long hair is a must, something short and black. Don’t forget to ditch your handbag for a wicker basket. And if you’re Serge, make sure you learn some French swear words.

John and Yoko
C’mon! They had such a knack for coordinating outfits. A couple that dresses together, stays together (well, almost). For John: Jesus hair (beard is optional), white suit that doesn’t look too pimp-y and those famous round specs. For Yoko: crazy long, thick black mane, preferably uncombed, oversized sunnies, a bit floppy hat, and everything white and ethereal looking. Look like you’re about to change the world… for a better place.

The White Stripes
This former husband and wife team turned bandmates (what a weird relationship!) broke up this year for good, so let’s give them a little Halloween homage. They are so wonderfully coordinated with their matching black manes, pale skins and a knack for red and white garments, one would think they were brother and sister (wait: that’s what they wanted us to believe). Act cool, maybe bicker a little beforehand. And Megs, don’t forget your drumsticks!

Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick
Okay, not a couple (for obvious reasons) but one can’t pass up the art stars’ twin-like platinum hairdos and matching physiques. For Andy: a platinum wig, black-rimmed spectacles and a Breton stripe shirt. For Edie: a matching wig, something short and leggy, long chandelier earrings and her signature thick lined brows and doe-eyed expression. Try to discuss intelligent topics all night, like the meaning of life.

Beyonce and JayZ
Please, like we couldn’t include these two. Is there anyone cooler at the moment? For Hova: something that says “I’m a rap mogul,” like streetwear that’s both cool and preppy at the same time. For B: crazy big hair, something gold, something fur and something bedazzled. Want to make it topical? How about a baby bump?
