Cuts with Quinn
A new west-end hair salon sells, literally, the idea of home.
Erica Quinn cut hair out of her own pied-a-terre for eight years before packing up and moving to Parkdale. Her punnily eponymous salon, Quinn West, still feels homey. For coffee-table reading, there's her favourite Art and Feminism; her fluffball dog, Mavis, runs around a lower-level space deco'd out in retro chairs, chandeliers and tchotchkes. Like her taste? Pick up a Royal Doulton vase ($25) or a midcentury wicker chair ($65) for your own place; she sells “modern antiques” on the side.
The honey-haired proprietress says her loyal clients range from 20 to 80; she can cut “a hip Queen Street asymmetrical hairstyle” or a “Rosedale mom 'do.” One thing she won't do? Anything “totally fabulous” and impossible to re-do at home. —SNP
Cuts with Quinn are around $70, and the delish Kevin Murphy products she uses exclusively are (most of them, anyway) $25 each. 1479 Queen St. W., Toronto, 416-588-7846, http://quinnwest.com
