Catch of the day

As the name implies, this rustic tavern is literally underground: Below Deck dishes up delicious traditional pub food with an East Coast spin.

The nautical decor and mood lighting makes you feel like you are regular at an authentic maritime bar in a tiny town in Nova Scotia. Try out the mussels with a side of fries or the Halifax Donair. Delve further into the menu and test the ‘Newfie Style’ Poutine complete with turkey stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Fridays and Saturdays they clear tables off the stage and make way for local and touring folk and bluegrass bands. Anticipate fiddles and banjos. —Kait Kucy
