Fashion File's Adrian Mainella gives us his holiday style tips: Christmas is not a time for shrinking violets. How can a girl make a statement at this year’s fetes? When it comes to jewels, more is more this season. Lanvin has set the stage for costume jewellery recently, and Alber Elbaz's juxtaposition between classic pearls and more industrial metal hardware gives great edge to a classic look. If you can't afford the designer pieces, take them as inspiration and have fun sourcing similar ones at any fast fashion chain in your town. We’re pining after a sequin blazer or chic capelet for the holidays. Any suggestions? The sequin or payette boyfriend jacket is a great way to liven that simple cocktail dress, or dress up those new jeans. From Stella McCartney to Pink Tartan, and from Zara to H&M your choices, whatever your budget, are limitless this holiday season. When in doubt, wear black. But what other colours are making a splash this winter? Red seemed to rule much of the runways this season. From Alexander McQueen to Prada, and Rag and Bone to Pink Tartan we saw this unapologetic colour take charge in everything from coats, cocktail dresses and incredible leather shifts. For those who really want to make a splash, consider winter white, because it will also transition into cruise and spring wear. Tassels, lace, ribbons, crystals, beads and graphics...there is no end to the prints and embellishment available to decorate your gams this holiday season. But surely you need a fab pair of pins? The shoe is the platform which supports your look. This season platforms with stiletto heels still rule the shelves, however a return to the classic stiletto is making a comeback. Jewel toned, diamond encrusted or patent are easy choices that will really leave others envious this holiday season. And ditto for thigh high boots, no? If you got the sticks, and the budget to follow, absolutely!
