    Creamery, Dreamery

Bar hopping has never been so good for your skin

Creamery with its long L-shaped wood bar and shelves lined with glass bottles of ingredients just opened in Eau Claire Market. But instead of lining up shots or ordering cosmos, Creamery is all about creating custom skin care. It starts with a consultation with one of the chefs to determine your skin type and concerns. Then, food-grade ingredients—think exotic oils, salts and spices — are added to a base to create creams, lotions, cleansers and more. The personalized products cost around $30 and help solve foibles such as cellulite or flaky skin.

It’s so good we might even order another round. —Jaelyn Molyneux

    We're in Treatment

Limp, dry hair is a cry for help that can be answered in less than five minutes.

Like other therapies, a Kerastase Ritual begins with talking about your issues. Instead of confessing that you reach for the Doritos when you are stressed, think hair concerns including colour protection, nourishment, reinforcement or density. The first step is admitting the problem. The second step is having your stylist custom blend a concoction of professionally concentrated ingredients to slather on your hair. It sits for a minute before it is rinsed out and your hair is blow dried and styled to rejuvenated perfection.

Whatever your issues, dull hair will no longer be one. —Jaelyn Molyneux

    Smile Brightly

Finding the perfect gloss is a quest that requires dedicated product testing.

A few years ago I worked my way through dozens of lip gloss options looking for one with just the right amount of shine and staying power. Bobbi Brown came out on top and her lip gloss in petal got a prime spot in my purse. Petal is a pretty neutral that plays it safe, but gloss is an easy way to go a little wild.

Bobbi Brown just released a trio of bold shades that add a sheer shock of colour sure to knock our lips out of the winter doldrums.

Citrus, cosmic pink and ultra violet are part of the Neons and Nudes collection meant to pump up lips while downplaying eye makeup or vice versa.

Choosing one feature to be bold is always beautiful. —Jaelyn Molyneux

    Feast of Fragrances

To say French fashion designer Thierry Mugler is happy with good enough is like saying Beyonce can sorta sing.

Exhibit A is the over-the-top sparkly, latex numbers Mugler created for the diva’s 2009 I Am tour. Exhibit B is Mugler’s latest project combining fragrance and food for The Taste of Fragrance.

Mugler challenged his perfumer to take his four fragrances, each with its own cult following, and enhance the original formula with gourmet notes. Angel gets a dose of cocoa powder, Alien is elevated with the scent of salted caramel, Womanity gets the added sugary aroma of figs and for the guys, A*Men is spiced with red pepper. All of those are paired with an edible menu created by Michelin star chef Hèléne Darroze. The ambitious recipes can be found at www.mugler.com.

The project is a one-two sensory punch that smells and tastes good. —Jaelyn Molyneux

    Sweet Smelling Suds

Sometimes soap just there to get you clean and sometimes soap is your hall pass to a few moments of indulgent daydreaming.

Designer Sarah Tallman started in floral design, dabbled in home décor and honed her nose creating products for Estee Lauder, Ralph Lauren and Prada. When it came to creating her signature scent, Grove New York, Tallman went for style, whimsy and the faint promise of endless summers.

Her 250-gram bar of soap ($12) smells of sweet citrus and spiced rum, kind of like the scent you might imagine lacing the breeze blowing through your cabana set up on a beach somewhere between the Palm Beach, Florida and Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda.

Inhale, lather, rinse and repeat to hang on to summer for as long as possible. —Jaelyn Molyneux

    Bye Bye Razor Bumps

Some serious body prep goes into being getting our silky smooth skin tank top, short and bikini-ready. Sometimes the slick look we are going for with shaving hits a few bumps and razor burns along the way.

It turns out we have been wallowing in irritation for no reason. A product to smooth our razored skin has been on the boys’ side of the medicine cabinet all along. Spread Shaveworks The Cool Fix on your armpits, legs or bikini area after shaving and the antibacterial soothing gel with calm and exfoliate the skin.

It’s smooth shaving from here on out. —Jaelyn Molyneux
