The Law of Gravity
I love a café that gets on board with my imbibing schedule.
Inglewood’s newest haunt, Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar’s lattes, pastries and panini early in the day fade to wine, charcuterie and fondue in the afternoon and into the evening. Its suppliers are a who’s who of local businesses including Phil & Sebastian coffee, Pascal’s Pastries and Spolumbo’s meats. The café’s modern rustic look comes from antique furniture from Uniquities Architectural Antiques and funky art from DaDe Art & Design Lab.
Let us sip and snack morning, noon and night. —Jaelyn Molyneux

Cocktail-sicles
After our successful first foray into adult popsicles using Caramilk liquor, we started searching around for other icy recipes to help us beat the heat with a bit of a buzz.
We found recipes for mango-mojito popsicles from Erica’s Sweet Tooth, sangria ice-pops from Emily Bites and these fab vodka-spiked ices made with fresh watermelon by culinary goddess, Giada de Laurentiis. We used these stunning stainless steel molds from Onxy Containers to make our ice-pops, but you can go green by freezing your libation of choice in a thoroughly cleaned yogourt container with a lid.
Just make sure that the kids don’t find them, or there might be tears at happy hour. —Jennifer Nachshen

Spooky Spirits
Decorating the house for Halloween needn’t be a headache. Just put your heads together.
A couple of Crystal Heads that is. The premium vodka brand owned by Dan Aykroyd and made in Newfoundland multitasks. The super smooth spirit within spikes the punch and the skull-shaped glass bottle you’re left with displays your candy corn in a goth way. It’s a graveyard smash.

Summer Sipping
If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, does a glass of cider do the trick? We like to think so.
The sparkling ciders by Quebecois Cidrerie Michel Jodoin ($18.95) are this summer’s backyard bevy. Refreshingly light, the ciders are a balance of tart and sweet with an easy finish, perfect as aperitifs or paired with anything from cheese to crepes.
Cidrerie tip: Add the sparkling cider to orange juice for a fresh take on a mimosa. Oh how we love them apples.

Happy Eats
Happy Hour is customarily about the bevies, but with the newly revamped 3-8 p.m. menu at BLVD Lounge, we’re going early for the food.
The mini burgers tapas plate ($12) is the perfect trio of Kobe beef, ahi tuna, and lamb mini-patties, while the artichoke and rocket organic chicken flatbread ($12) soaks up those bevvies in no time. Served with bell peppers and beetroot tzatziki, the salt and pepper calamari ($9) is a new take on an old favourite, and since we do need something to sip on, we can’t pass up the half priced drinks especially when it’s the BLVD sangria (love the Malibu) or the Juneau with strawberries, lemon and basil cut with Grey Goose Le Citron and Chambord. At this rate Happy Hour is sure to become plural.

Milk It
A little paint, new lighting and fresh décor can drastically change a space.
This is the case at the former home of local favourite Bar Named Sue which sadly closed its doors late last year but has now been transformed into chic cocktail boîte Milk Tiger Lounge.
The new digs have a delicious sampling of edibles including the vegetarian skewer platter ($13) and cherry tomatoes wrapped with anchovies and the raspberry and garlic baked brie ($11). Wash it down with a Kronenburg ($5.95) or a Cosmopolitan ($9).
A facelift can sometimes do wonders.
