    Fashion Forward

It’s a fashion-packed week in the city. Herewith, a day-by-day guide to the most fashionable events in town over the next few days:

First up, stock up on '70s-inspired fashions and colourful pieces at H&M’s new flagship store opening today at noon at The Core downtown. The 22,000-square-foot, two-floor space will be the only store in the city to carry Ladies Trend and its opening coincides with the launch of the Conscious Collection, a line of eco-friendly fashions.

When you’re ready for the weekend, Saturday night, get to Fabricated, a fashion/shopping event highlighting Calgary-based designers behind lines such as Jalu, Peeko Apparel and Kaadiki. April 16, 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Grand, 608 First St. SW, Calgary. Tickets here.

Sunday morning, it’s up and at’em early for Church myStyle. Stylist Kim Flanagan calls her regular Sunday re-inspiration sessions “mini spankings,” or “temperature checks” for women who want to rediscover their groove, inside and out. The event includes a runway fashion show and Vancouver’s Danielle LaPorte who will be leading the “sermon. April 17, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Hotel Arts, 119 12th Ave. SW, Calgary, tickets, $125 here.

    Better Book Club

Beauty and brains is a winning combination. Throw in some shoes and you’ve got the jackpot.

Launched in 2006 by a collective of five small literary presses, Fictionistas is a cross-Canada reading series for female writers of literary fiction with an added fashion component.

Tonight’s inaugural Calgary event will feature footwear and bags from Luna Blue Shoes. Like a wine and cheese pairing, each of the four authors will be wearing shoes and accessories that have been selected to complement each of their books.

Go for the lit, stay for the shoes.

Fictionistas, 7 p.m. at the Auburn Saloon, free admission, 163, 116 Ninth Ave. SE, Calgary, 403-266-6628.

    Art Wares

If you’re still in search of a winter wardrobe, make a night out of it this Friday at the annual ARTWear event.

Presented by the Art Gallery of Calgary and held at Hotel Arts, the evening includes a fashion auction where competing fashionistas bid on pieces (potential for catwalk cat fights?) and a runway show including Pink Sugar, Paul Hardy Atelier, Primitive Couture, Mealan and Azul Couture.

Post fashion show, Calgary’s Kyemara will rock the gallery.

We could get used to this kind of shopping.

    Tickets ($75) at www.artgallerycalgary.org or call 403-770-1353.
