PRETTY PRINTS

It was frocks galore at Katrina Tuttle with a pallette of black, gold, grey, greens, purples and blues.

Halifax's Katrina Tuttle (below far right) strikes a pose with her smokey-eyed models. The collection, she tells us, was inpsired by the colours and textures of nature as she looked down over the lakes and fileds of Nova Scotia from a private plane.

BEST HAIR GOES TO....LUNDSTROM

Okay, so I wasn't really too keen on the models from the neck down...but the verdict from the neck up is a different story entirely. These models were asked to channel their inner Ace Ventura.

Pat McDonagh follows the white rabbit
Posted by KATHERINE HOLLAND at 9:50 amMarch 31st, 2010
So, yeah. The Allstream Centre is pretty great.
Finally, a venue where you can get some breathing room on your way into and out of a show! Me and Miss Wisenthal (*see Montreal editor) glided across the mock-dance floor, bought 8$ glasses of white, and curled up with some Pat McDonagh.
And daymn, this girl brought it.
Yes, there was fur. My favourite piece was the fur bolero featured above...it could almost get me in the mood for Fall again. But not. That's the weird thing about watching these shows...because spring has sprung in Toronto, all I want to do it gaze at fluffy summer frocks, and instead - dramatic Fall maxis, fur, and SCARVES! Show me this again in about 6 months, and I might get excited.

Flats on a runway? I DO declaaaare.
Fortunately McDonagh made up for my disdain for Fall with her focus on winter white. There is almost nothing that makes a woman look more like a woman (in my opinion) than a white gown. These women looked like true goddesses...

Where there is a white gown...I will buy it.
However, for my next Halloween costume...
Hot.
Le fin.
OH!
P.S. McDonagh left us all parting gifts: a medal that reads: "For personal power, use with integrity". I saved mine for Sandra Bullock. Loves ya!

Cocoon Vintage
Former VitaminDaily contributor, TV star, and all-around amazing gal Gelarah Darabi has launched an online vintage shop to share some of the incredible fashion finds from the streets of London, UK.
After road-tripping across North America in a VW van, the lady has a mean collection to sift through.
Perfect pieces to lay in waiting for Fashion Week 2011? I think so. Just don't touch that sequin Dynasty top. MINE!
Chronicles from her adventures abroad can be found at www.iheartcocoon.com.
I heart Gelarah.

Party like your Grandma

When it comes to Fashion Week, put your feelings towards bunny-laden androgynous amazons aside, and look at it as just a marvelous excuse to dress up. That 'thing' that has been sitting in your closet for two years is dying to get out- let it out! I promise you, no matter what it is, you can make it work (I just don't want to see your junk).
I have learned through my years at fashion shows that if you want to get noticed you need to either go a.) crazy or b.) vintage.
People are united through fashion at these things...as silly as they may seem. New troves are discovered, new talents unleashed, and new fantasies satisfied.
And if you want my pick - it's none other than 69 Vintage.
If you've heard it once, you've heard it a million times. The trick to making vintage work is in moderation. If you're a vintage virgin and intimidated by the whole affair, the easiest way to cruise into the lifestyle is through accessories.
Skinny leather wrap-belts, clip-on earrings, sculpted hats, miliary jackets, and oxfords are all fabulous ways to finish your spring outfit.
When in doubt, consult with owner and fashion god Kealan Sullivan. The woman knows.

IF THE SHOE FITS
Posted by Toronto Editor at 3:13 pmMarch 29th, 2010

The fashion media put their best foot forward at a breakfast hosted by Holt Renfrew in celebration of LGFW. Now Magazine style editor, Andrew Sardone wore brogues, MTV's Dan Levy opted for Comme des Garcons sneaks and Final Fashion's Danielle Meder wore her own custom painted DM's. We spotted plenty of platforms (on Jeanne Becker, Susie Sheffman, Suzanne Boyd et al.) a fabulous pair of Denis Gagnon fringed boots and, our favourite, a pair of zebra printed lace ups.

The Naked Truth
Posted by Vitamin Daily at 12:03 pmMarch 26th, 2010
We got a few minutes with the charming Zain Meghji, host of the W Network's How to Look Good Naked Canada to ask his expert opinion on how to look our best in the buff (fear not, we kept our clothes on).
Is there any cut of undergarment that women should stay away from, regardless of their shape and size?
I go by the saying "Accentuate the Best, Dress the Rest." I suggest that you get undergarments that will support and flatter your figure. It's not about changing your body, it's about enhancing it. Don't rely on your outer layers, even if they are structured (which is always important) to do all the work.
What's the trick to looking good in the buff?
The most important thing I tell the ladies when they look in the mirror is to identify what they LIKE about what they see. Too often we hone in on what we don't like. I challenge people to focus on what they DO like about their body and appreciate that.
Seems just like fashion, underwear style changes as well. Thongs: right or wrong?
I suppose there's a reason Sisqo was a One Hit Wonder. Although a thong will help you avoid a visible pantyline it is not going to do anything for supporting your figure. And then you are prone to Hungry Bum, if you wear those pants or leggings or tights that just don't fit right. It's not the '90s. Move on.
Which celebrity would you like to work your magic on?
Without a doubt, Britney Spears. She used to be so cute and dress in such a fun manner, but now that she's a mother and has - let's just put it as - "experienced life" she has really let her self go. Odd make up choices, poor maintenance of her hair, and just careless clothing. We don't need to see her traipsing about gas stations in wife beaters and cut off jeans. Yes, it is showing a lot of skin, but it's actually distracting from her great shape. If I ran her through the guantlet of H2LGNC she would emerge looking reinvigorated, refreshed, and respectful... and we'd get some hella good ratings out of that episode.
How To Look Good Naked Canada airs Tuesday nights (10 p.m. E/P) on the W Network. Watch episodes online here.

AB Fashion Week Struts On
Posted by Calgary City Editor at 8:39 amMarch 26th, 2010
Day Four of Alberta Fashion Week included runway shows by a handful of designers. First up, the edgy, androgynous line by Anji. K.

Kirsten Summersgill, the designer behind Pout mixed the sweetness of pink cardigans and ruffles with sexy leather and exposed midriffs.

Madam Wolf's designer Jenna Etcheverry was inspired by Native American culture mixed with glam rock. Although the one-shoulder ruffle dress didn't exactly fit with the overall esthetic, I liked the detail. And if you recognize the model on the right, yes, that is the infamous Nikita from Canada's Next Top Model Cycle 3.

Nicola Rita Tomney (NRT Fashions) had some interesting pieces including this puff-sleeved, full-skirt jacket but the gimmicky "sleeves to the ground" didn't work for me.

Bright shoes from the front row.

The youngest photographer at the show. Perhaps, she should get in touch with Tavi.
