ICE ICE BABY
December 10th, 2009
Maria and I recently hit the newly reopened Robson Square rink in preparation for our upcoming appearance at the Olympic games (we're competing as a pairs team, in case you hadn't heard). I had requested a sparkly Oksana Baiul number to wear for public skate practice, but apparently those take time to make, so instead I got spiffed out in a plaid riding jacket courtesy of Joe Fresh. And while we did a little pre-stretching, the rink's adorable Orca zamboni made the rounds.
Although both seasoned pros (*cough*cough*), Maria and I were a little shaky on our skates at first and sought support from the railing.
But with a gold medal on the line, somewhere in our future, however unlikely, we bucked up and braved the open ice. In no time, I twirled and did a little figure skate break dance...
... while Maria texted the Russian judges to rig the competition, then quick changed into different clothes to show-off her sit spin.
To cap off our rigorous training, we cozied up to the fire at the Gerard Lounge and indulged in some non-regulation refreshments. Irish Coffee is totally a legitimate energy drink.
