Sorting Out the Mess in your Closet

September 29th, 2011

Stylishmess is a new store in West Point Grey founded by Sarah Parsons, a certified image consultant. Why does that matter? Not only do you get a great selection of pieces from brands like Milly, Twelfth street by Cynthia Vincent, and Rory Beca, but you also get the expert styling advice from someone who is going to make sure you walk out of the store looking the best you possibly can.

We gave Sarah a scenario that has affected a lot of us at Vitamin Daily lately: how to dress when you have just had a baby. She told us that she dealt with this type of customer on a daily basis, so she gave us three tips on dressing post pregnancy.

1. Emphasize the smallest part of your waist. Many post partum women try and wear loose clothign to conceal the waist area, but Sarah says this is wrong. Try belting high up on the waist, where you are small. And high waisted pants or pencil skirts are very flattering. This Rory Beca top is flattering and doesn't try and hide the waist.

2. Princess seams elongate and slim the figure, so form fitting dresses aren't off limits, providing they have princess seams. Layering with items like this tuxedo blazer can also slim the figure, it hides the lower belly but hugs the body enough to give it curves.

3. Jeans should not be low waisted (she explained that the term "muffin top" only came into use when we started wearing low waisted jeans.) She carries Adriano Goldschmied jeans which have a high rise and are higher at the back.
