If there is one thing I like better drinking wine and reading, it's drinking wine and being read to. Last night, as the first lasting snowfall blanketed the city, book lovers gathered at the Gladstone Hotel to GETLIT. The event focuses on groups of inspiring individuals, who each read and discussed a piece of literature that has deeply moved them. The proceeds from the event go to the Running & Reading Club after-school program.
This year's impressive list of readers included: Toronto Mayor David Miller (above), 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Carol Huynh, Ken Setterington, Children and Youth Advocate for Library Services at the Toronto Public Library (below), Author and emergency physician Vincent Lam, Amy Verner Style Reporter for the Globe and Mail, Comedian Elvira Kurt, and George Stroumboulopoulos host of CBC's The Hour.
Speakers read from a variery of genres, materials varied from classic fantasy book, 'The Hobbit' to an obscure Hungarian poem, and from "Loyalty Management" a book of poetry to "Liquid Secrets" a book on perfume.
Julie and I had a wonderful time. Evidence? we took five photos and they all looked like this.
