Hiring a cleaning service just never occurred to me before.  Or I should say when it did occur to me, I felt guilty like I couldn’t handle cleaning my apartment on my own. Some sort of house cleaning denial, it seems. I have never been one to clean my house as a hobby (believe me, I know people who love to do this) – I am more of an organizer. I like to make my stuff look pretty and rearrange my bookshelves by colour, but you won’t find me on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor. It just seems obvious that a cleaning service would have really taken a load off all of these years.

I was so excited when I was introduced to AspenClean, a Vancouver company that promotes and uses products that are plant-based, smell great and care for the environment. They have just launched their cleaning services in Calgary and I was lucky to be invited to try out their products and their services before officially launching the company.

I was immediately pleased by their super-friendly approach to customer relations. After scheduling your cleaning services, they send you a confirmation email. A few days later they send you another email notifying you of the time window they will be arriving and then a representative will call you the day before to let you know what time exactly they will be coming. Very helpful as I like to have everything planned out in advance. Dealing with a fairly busy schedule at all times, it is details like these that make AspenClean so easy to deal with. Before the cleaning appointment, I had already been using their household products for a couple of weeks and was very surprised at the results. All natural and made with plant materials, these products REALLY clean. Each product is colour-coded and is matched up with a coordinating micro-fibre cloth and together they can tackle any stain or mess. I honestly hardly had to scrub at all and clearly I hate scrubbing so this felt like a miracle happening before my very own eyes. 

The cleaning service itself was a dream. I met the team of four lovely ladies who were on the mission to bring my apartment to spic-and-span quality. They brought with them all of the great natural products and quite possibly the most gorgeous lime green vacuum I have ever seen. While I worked away in my office, they went all neat-freak on my place from floor to ceiling. It was beautiful. Again, great customer relations, they double-checked with me before they left to see if there was anything else I wanted done.

I feel like a changed woman since this experience, quite literally. The day to day maintenance doesn’t feel like such a chore anymore once you can see your sparkling reflection in your kitchen backsplash.  And with plenty of great options (including monthly, weekly and one-time cleanings) you don’t have to be a Rockafeller to afford AspenClean to help out around your house.
