Hidden Treasure
July 10th, 2009
It was almost time for the secret rendez-vous....I had made contact earlier in the week and was awaiting further instructions. I had no idea what to expect, but the adventure seemed to be worth the risk. Finally, my map came by email and, at the pre-arranged time, I followed it across town, down an alley, past a tree, and up some stairs. It was all very cloak and dagger....
Waiting for me at the top of the stairs was my reward...a glass of bubbly, a marvelous charcuterie plate loaded with fresh market finds, and a group of like-minded individuals ready to share in a foodie adventure.
The Hidden Market is Montreal's most secret dining club, regularly bringing together 6-8 diners for a communal gastronomic experience. Chef / sommelier, Francois, creates innovative seasonal menus and offers wine pairings for those who wish to indulge. On this particular evening, we enjoyed a light and fresh shrimp and tuna tartare, the ooey-gooiest gnocchi ever, hearty braised short ribs, and a finish of strawberry crisp and ginger ice cream. Deeeee-lish!
The menu changes weekly based on what's fresh, and the guests can range from a group of friends to eight complete strangers. What fun!
I'm reserving my spot soon for my next Hidden Market experience. The cat's out of the bag, and this secret dining club isn't going to stay a secret for long.
Hmmm...maybe I should reconsider my career as a secret agent.
