Looking for some Halloween thrills this weekend? Enter the The Haunted Hike (if you dare), a fundraiser for the Stollery Children's Hospital and a genuinely entertaining (albeit slightly unnerving) annual event held in Sherwood Park, a quick half hour drive from downtown Edmonton.

It feels a little Blair Witch Project initially, but you'll find that there's lots of people around (in fact, 3000 people made it out last Saturday night) to make you feel safe. A $2 shuttle from the Strathcona Station (in SHPK) takes you to your destination, while a general donation gains you access to some pretty great special effects, creepy sets, and a dozen undead looming in the darkness.

Yep, hysterical, laughing clowns on squeaking tricycles are the scariest.

AH! I yelled obscenities more than a few times during my hike, which was thankfully not frowned upon, as I attended during "Scary Hours" (take your kidlets anytime from 6PM-7:15PM, before things get a little nutty).

And don't worry! We made it out alive, and felt compelled to run home, rent scary movies and share a bottle of wine. Run dates this weekend are on Friday and Saturday from 6PM, with the last shuttle leaving at 9PM. And if you're not into haunted hiking (it's more like a light stroll through the woods), visit the Farm of Fear at the Edmonton Corn Maze, running on the 27th, 28th, 29th, and all Hallow's Eve. Watch your step.
