Being Adam and Erin
November 2nd, 2010
Here's the second part of our interview (read the first part here) with Erin Karpluk and Adam Fergus, stars of CBC’s Being Erica. And check out our video of the duo answering even more questions below.
You now travel back in time with other characters to their pasts. Whose past would you want to travel back to?
EK: I would be tempted to say someone like Nelson Mandela but I don’t want to spend that much time in a jail cell and go through what he went through…Or someone who lives a rock and roll lifestyle…Jackie Onassis or Oprah Winfrey, or Irma Douglas that would be cool to be Tommy Douglas’s wife or to be Tommy Douglas.
AF: There are so many times and eras I’d like to go back to. The Shakespearean time when he was actually writing and how fascinating that would have been or even some of my buddies, to go back…there are so many people’s brains I’d like to pick, so many people’s opinions you’d like to get on certain issues. What would Bob Marley have said on this and stuff like that.
EK: Or Oprah!
One of the key messages on the show is how important it is to be in the present. Has the show made it easier personally to appreciate the present or has it made you think even more about the past and the future?
EK: …When I’m actually doing a scene, I can allow myself to be much more in the moment but when I’m not, as Erin, I have to constantly remind myself to soak it in, be in the moment, walk slow, life is short…we have a really good expression when we’re shooting, flow down the river of life naked and unabandoned. Instead of struggling upstream, let go and flow and everything gets sorted out.
