5 Questions with Dani Reiss, CEO Canada Goose
November 3rd, 2011
While we'd love to think we abide by the "style before comfort" rule at all cost, sometimes our fancy wool coat just doesn't cut it in cold weather, and we need something that is going to keep us warm. Very warm. Dani Reiss is the perfect man to give us just that. We sat down with the CEO of Canada Goose to talk down jackets and keeping warm.
Vitamin Daily: Your product is made in Canada. Has the "Made in Canada" label increased in value in the past few years?
Dani Reiss: I think "Made in Canada" is getting more and more valuable every year. A decade ago, many manufacturers were leaving Canada, but we decided to stay. Other manufacturers said they couldn't meet their margins and that the consumer didn't care. We think the consumer does care, and is caring more and more. It mattered then and it matters more and more today.

VD: What are the benefits of down?
DR: Pound for pound, down is the world's warmest insulator. It is natural, it is sustainable, it is light, and it is a by-product of meat.
VD: Does fashion play a role in your designs?
DR: Function is first in everything we do. The most important thing is that we make the best, warmest jackets in the world, and we make them in Canada. But our ladies styles are often well-fitted, so they are flattering as well as functional.

VD: Tell us a bit about the Hybridge Lite collection you have just launched (pictured above.)
DR: It is an extension of the Hybridge collection, launched last year. It is very light, it is very fitted, it is made for active people, and it is made right here in Vancouver. The fit is amazing, is uses Canadian down, 10 denier fabric, and the jackets weigh less than ten ounces.
VD: And you've just done a collection with Loro Piana (the Italian company famed for their super luxe wools and cashmeres, pictured above.)
DR: This is our first year working them. We use their storm system fabric, it is a waterproof and breathable wool, and is a beautiful fabric that feels amazing. We integrated that into our down jackets, there are four styles for men and women. It has been really successful so far. (Available at Holt Renfrew.)
Sounds like Canada Goose has got us sorted for winter!
